Smartphones have became the most personal devices of users, which is a reflection of simplicity, user friendliness and intuitiveness of the app ecosystem on these devices. Smartphones have indeed played a major role in consumerisation of IT than any other technology one could think of, again a sign of higher user adoption.
According to a survey conducted by Vanson Bourne, the attitude towards mobile app development is changing. Enterprises are now more committed to the mobile investments and are tracking key performance indicators. The enterprises are showing mobile maturity for business transformation; automating business processes and making web-based processes more friendly.

Majority of decision makers believe that having an enterprise mobile strategy is a perfect way to evolve businesses and a successful business relies on the customers. Hence, most of the enterprises believe in developing a customer –facing mobile application in the beginning- An investment that would leverage more ROI as compared to any other investment.
Is This The Right Strategy?
Being a CEO, CIO or CFO, one should ask “Is this a complete mobile strategy?”. A complete mobile strategy would involve all the stakeholders including employees; customers; and vendors.
An effective mobile strategy should not only aim at leveraging the power of smart-phones of customers, but also on leveraging the power of smart-phones of employees, vendors, and other stakeholders. It should focus on every possible area of an enterprise- for which IT leaders should take the reins in their hands.
In order for an enterprise to run smoothly, numerous softwares like ERP, CRM, MIS, BI tools etc. are utilized. Now number of softwares extend their support to mobile through mobile apps or mobile website. An IT leader should be able to utilize these customization support for their advantage. A proper adoption and integration of various devices and softwares required by all stakeholder would result in a true mobile strategy.
A Holistic Approach
Business workflows having numerous human interactions along the value-chain are the perfect choice for enterprise mobility. Embarking quicker decision making by involving all the stakeholders due to improved collaboration results into tangible as well as intangible profits. Creating a holistic environment benefits employees, employers, and customers. Being a major driver of innovation in coming years, enterprises should integrate mobile solutions with existing infrastructure. Enterprises are increasingly realizing that by deploying efficient mobile strategy, they can expect substantial productivity gains, improved sales, better tracking of work and least sway-offs from set goals.
Ultimately, the onus is on the leader of an enterprise. One needs to take an informed decision on the mobile strategy suiting the business goals and objectives.
