Tech News: A Feature-Complete Java SDK for Kentico Cloud Announced

When we talk about the most complex enterprise-level applications, two technologies have stood the test of time and continue to be fantastic platforms for enterprise application development in their own right. One is Microsoft’s .NET and the other Oracle’s Java. Microsoft .Net framework supports formidable technologies such as ASP.Net MVC and the latest in the lot, ASP.Net Core that has benefits associated with the modern trends of web application development. Kentico is based on the .Net platform and supports the SDKs associated with it. Recently, Kentico Cloud has come on par with Java SDK with full-fledged features supporting all the features that the .Net SDK has. This includes strongly typed content, runtime-typed content, and a new feature called taxonomy. This has facilitated Java developers to work seamlessly with Kentico Cloud.

If your Java development environment is already set up all you need to do is establish a dependency to the Kentico Cloud delivery Java SDK Maven. This can be done either by editing the Gradle build system’s configuration files, or by using the Maven Project Object Model (POM). This change is required in the Gradle settings.

It is assumed that you already have a Kentico Cloud project pointing to your future Java application. With the dependencies already set up, it is time to utilize the code generator tool. This code generator produces strongly typed Java model classes of Kentico Cloud content types, like in other SDKs of .Net for Kentico. The Gradle build plugin provides the easiest way of using it.

An important aspect is to be able to get the Kentico Cloud content created for the Java SDK. This can be achieved by creating an instance of the DeliveryClient class from which you can query and filter for Kentico Cloud content items, content models, and other artefacts.

In essence, Kentico is a true headless CMS. Thus, it treats all the programming languages in a similar fashion. The Java SDK is an epitome of this feature since it supports the newest API features spontaneously. Kentico Cloud API can facilitate getting the most up-to-date content by enforcing and circumventing the content that has been updated instantly.

It might be the case that a developer already knows Kentico Cloud and wishes to learn more about Java SDK. The best way to achieve this is by starting with the README.md descriptions of both SDK and code generator. For the other way around, i.e. a developer being not familiar with Kentico Cloud, it is best to learn the fundamental concepts from a reliable source. And within no time, you would find yourself enjoying programming with the Java SDK and getting along with it well.
