Android has recently made available its latest operating system Android 8.0 Oreo which incorporates enterprise mobility management, application programming interface (API), and security features. This new operating system, named after a popular cookie, brings more intelligence and power for both the consumers and enterprises. Let us discuss how Android app development companies can leverage Android Oreo to build best-in-class applications.
Adding New Dimensions to Enterprise Mobility
One among the several smart features of Android Oreo for the enterprise is the free and easy to implement built-in functionality that separates work from personal data. Another significant feature is the BYOD deployments and work managed functions for the corporate-owned devices.
Android Oreo also brings the work profile on work managed devices as one of the biggest enterprise additions to the OS. Fully managed devices now have work profiles that will facilitate organizations to separate apps and policies across both profiles while maintaining the visibility at the same time.
Security Transpires Trust
With this latest issue, security has been strengthened significantly. Features such as data at rest protection, advanced encryption with forensics, adds higher level of security. Android has been working closely with Google since a few years now to address the requirements on its devices. The unified endpoint management technology in congruence with Android works to secure and equip devices with the apps and resources that users need.
With this edition of Android, the ‘allow unknown sources’ setting has been eliminated. This will help enterprises to reduce the chances that users would download an app that will infect the network. All these days, ‘allow unknown sources’ setting has been a principal feature of Android that facilitated users to download apps from outside the Google Play Store. This feature has been replaced with the ‘install unknown apps’ permission in the update that makes it more safe to download apps from outside the Google Play Store. According to Edward Cunningham, Android Security Product Manager, the permission that prompts to install is tied to the app like other runtime permissions and it ensures that the user grants permission to use the install source before it prompts the user to install an app. The benefit of this mechanism denies hostile downloaders to trick the user to install an app without first been given the green signal when used on a device running Android O or higher. Users, with this permission mechanism have more control over how they download apps and gives them an opportunity to revoke the app permissions that they believe to be clandestine at any time.
An Assortment of Features
There isn’t a hint of doubt that Google Android 8.0 Oreo is a powerful, smarter and efficient mobile OS with features galore. With enhanced battery life, better UI and UX, enhanced notifications, picture-in-picture feature, autofill frameworks, play store security, better connectivity and security, enterprises can leverage Android 8.0 Oreo to facilitate better mobility management with enhanced security.
